Title: Manual Uninstall of the CardReader 100

Solution:
 
  1. Open the Windows Control Panel from your Start menu.
  2. Double click on "Scanners and Cameras".
    Windows XP & Windows Me:
    Right-click on the CardReader 100 scanner and choose "Delete" from the menu.
    Windows 2000 & Windows 98:
    Left-click on the CardReader 100 scanner to select it then click on the "Remove" button.
  3. After the scanner has been removed unplug the scanner from your computer.
  4. Close the "Scanners and Cameras" window.
  5. Double-click on "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel window.
  6. Select "Visioneer CardReader 100" then click on the "Change/Remove" button.



  7. The "Select Uninstall method" window will open.
  8. Select the Radio button next to "Automatic" then click on the "Next" Button.



  9. Click on the "Finish" button when the "Perform Uninstall" window opens.



  10. You will now be back in the "Add/Remove Programs" list
  11. Select "VisioneerBCR 1.5", then click on the "Change/Remove" button



  12. Select the radio button next to "Remove" then click on the "Next" button.



  13. Click on the "OK" button in the "Confirm Uninstall" window.



  14. When the remove has completed select the "Finish" button.



  15. Close out of the "Add\Remove Programs" window and the "Control Panel" window.
  16. Open "My Computer" by double-clicking on the icon located on your desktop or in your Windows Start menu.
  17. Double-click on the C: drive.
  18. Double-click on the "Program Files".
  19. Right-click on the "VisioneerBCR 1.5" folder then select "Delete" from the list.
  20. When the "Confirm Folder Delete" window appears, select the "Yes" button.



  21. Click the "Back" button in the "My Computer" Window or press the "backspace" key on your keyboard to take you back to the C: drive.
  22. Double-click on the "Windows" folder.
  23. Double-click on the "Prefetch".
  24. Right-click on "VISIONEERBCR.EXE-3345DE5.pf" and select "Delete" from the menu.
  25. Click on the "Yes" button in the "Confirm File Delete".



  26. Close the "My Computer" window.
  27. Empty the "Recycle Bin"
  28. Unplug the CardReader 100 scanner from your computer.
  29. Open the Windows Registry
  30. Go to the "Start" button and select "Run".

    Windows XP, me & 98: In the "Open:" field type "regedit" and then click on the "OK" button.
    Windows 2000: In the "Open" field type in "regedt32" and then click on the "OK" button.



  31. You will see a window similar to the one below.



  32. Some of the keys listed in the next steps may not be available. This is not a problem, just move on to the next key.
    • Export a copy of your Windows system registry so that a backup copy is available should you need to restore the registry if any issues arise after performing the manual uninstall. Please click VIS1034 - Import or Export Windows System Registry for instructions on how to create a backup of your registry.

  33. Navigate to the following folders by clicking on the "+" next to each folder to expand the folder and view the sub-folders.
    • Click on the "+" next to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
    • Click on the "+" next to "System"
    • Click on the "+" next to "CurrentControlSet"
    • Click on the "+" next to "Control"
    • Click on the "+" next to "Class"
    • Click on the "+" next to "{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}"
  34. Click on each of the sub folders under "{6BDD1FC6...}" looking at the right side of the screen
  35. Find the subfolder with the "CardReader 100" as the product name on the right side of the window. See below for an example:



  36. Right mouse click on the subfolder associated with the "CardReader 100" and select "Delete".
  37. You will get a "Confirm Key Delete" window. Select the "Yes" button.



  38. Still under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet" scroll down and find the "Enum" folder.
    • Click on the "+" next to "Enum"
    • Click on the "+" next to "USB"
  39. Under the "USB" folder, find any sub folders that start with "Vid_04a7&Pid_0445".
    See the example below:



  40. Right mouse click on the subfolder labeled "Vid_04a7&Pid_0445" and select "Permissions"
  41. Select "Everyone" on the stop of the window.
  42. Click on the next to "Allow" under the column "Full Control".
  43. Click on OK
  44. Right-click on "Vid_04a7&Pid_0445" and select "Delete" from the list.
  45. You will get the "Confirm Key Delete" window. Select the "Yes" button.



  46. Follow steps 40-45 to remove any additional entries of the "Vid_04a7&Pid_0445" key.
  47. Follow steps 33-45 to remove these same keys from your other Control Sets
    • Scroll up and find the ControlSet listed directly above "CurrentControlSet".
    • This control set will be named either "ControlSet002" "ControlSet003" or "ControlSet004"
  48. Scroll up and find "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" then click on the "+" sign to expand the folder.
  49. Navigate to the following folders by clicking on the "+" next to each folder to expand the folder and view the sub-folders.
    • Click on the "+" next to the "Software" folder.
    • Click on the "+" next to the "Microsoft" folder.
    • Click on the "+" next to the "Windows" folder.
    • Click on the "+" next to the "ShellNoRoam" folder.
  50. Select the "MUICache" folder so that the contents appear on the right side of the window. See below for an example.



  51. On the right side of the window find the item labeled "C:\Program Files\VisioneerBCR 1.5\VisioneerBCR.exe". Right mouse click on the item and select "Delete".
  52. You will get the "Confirm Value Delete" window. Select the "Yes" button.
  53. Close out of the "Registry" window.
  54. Reboot your computer.
  55. The "Visioneer CardReader 100" has now been uninstalled completely from your machine.
