| Symptom: |
| |
| While uninstalling your scanner from device manager, you receive an error message: Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up the computer. |
| |
| Cause: |
| |
|
This error occurs when some of the registry entries for the device were damaged or removed.
|
| |
| Solution: |
| |
|
This problem can typically be fixed by updating the driver. If this fails, the device will need to be removed manually from the registry.
|
| |
Solution 1: Update the driver
Note: While following these steps, sometimes the Update Driver wizard may skip one or more steps. If this occurs, simply move ahead to the next step.
- In device manager, right click on the scanner and select Update Driver
- Select No, not at this time, and click Next
- Select Install from a list of specific location (Advanced), and click Next
- Select Dont search. I will choose the driver to install., and click Next
- Select Imaging Device for hardware type and click Next
- Uncheck Show compatible hardware
- For manufacturer select Agfa, then select any camera on the right and click Next
- If unchecking Show compatible hardware still only shows your scanner model, select your scanner model and click next
- If you receive an error that this is not recommended, click "Yes" to continue anyway
- Click Finish
- Now you will be able to right click on the device and uninstall it without error
If you still receive an error or you were not able to complete these steps, follow the instructions under Solution 2 - Removing the scanner from the registry".

| |
Solution 2: Remove the scanner from the registry
Note: These steps require modifying the Windows Registry. It is recommended that you make a backup of your registry prior to making any changes. Please click VIS1176 - Navigating the Windows Registry for more information on working in the registry.
- Click on the "Start" button and choose "Run"
- Windows XP: In the 'Open:' field type in "regedit" then click on "OK"
Windows 2000: In the 'Open:' field type in "regedt32" then click on "OK"
- Windows XP: Click on the "+" next to "HKEY_LOCAL_Machine" to expand the list
Windows 2000: Click on the window HKEY_LOCAL_Machine on Local Machine
- Click on the "+" next to "System" then CurrentControlSet then Enum then USB
- Under USB, look for any keys that start out with the following:
- Vid_04a7&Pid_
- Vid_0461&Pid_
- Vid_0451&Pid_
- For each key you find, delete them using the following steps:
- Right click on the key (eg Vid_04a7&Pid_)
- Click on Permissions
- Under Groups and Users select Everyone
- Put a check under the Allow column next to Full Control
- Click OK
- Click Edit then Delete
- In the confirmation window that comes up, click Yes
- Repeat these steps for each occurrence you found in step 5
- Click "File" then "Exit" to close the registry editor
The scanner has now been removed from device manager.
