After installing the scanner, the system gives errors, the scanner is not found or functioning, or there are intermittent system freezes.
  1. Check the physical connections between the scanner and workstation
    Make sure to remove any extension cords or USB hubs powered or not.
  2. Verify that the correct scanner driver is installed on the computer by checking the "Add/Remove Programs" in the "Control Panel".
    • Click on the "Start" button
    • Depending on which Windows View you are using in XP, you will either click on "Control Panel" or click on "Settings" then "Control Panel"
  3. Once in the "Control Panel" go to "Scanners and Cameras"
  4. Verify that your scanner islisted
  5. If you do not see your scanner, close "Scanners and Cameras"
  6. Click on "Start" then "Run"
  7. Type "Devmgmt.msc" and click the "OK" button
  8. This should open the "Device Manager" screen listing all of the hardware installed on your computer in alphabetical order.


  9. You may see a yellow exclamation markor red X under Imaging Devices if the scanner is installed incorrectly or the drivers are not fully installed.
  10. If you see your scanner listed with a yellow exclamation mark or red X, right click on the scanner.
  11. This will open a sub-menu. In this menu click on "Update driver". Follow the hardware wizard until you reach the Finish screen. Once you reach the Finished screen, the scanner is now installed. It is recommended that you reboot your PC in order to make sure all of the changes are made.
