Symptom:

How do I Clean the scanner?

Cause:

Vertical streaking is typically caused by paper dust, dirt, correction fluid or other blockage on the scanner glass. If your scanner is having problems grabbing paper or is grabbing multiple pages at a time it is time to clean the scanner.

Solution:

Regularly cleaning your scanner can help to keep and maintain optimal image quality. The Technical Support Department recommends using the VisionAid maintenance kits for properly maintaining the ADF scanners, regular maintenance will help to maintain scanned image quality.

If you do not have a VisionAid maintenance kit, please follow the instructions below for cleaning the scanner.

Materials Needed:
  • 1 bottle of Isopropyl rubbing alcohol (95%)
  • Cotton Swabs
    or
  • Screen wipes dampened with Isopropyl rubbing alcohol
Please turn off the scanner at this time

Instructions:
  1. Open the ADF cover
  2. Take the ADF pad out of the scanner
  3. Either wet a cotton swab with the Isopropyl alcohol or open a screen wipe
  4. Wipe down both sides of the ADF pad
  5. Wipe the main feed roller (black) from side to side, rotate the roller as you are cleaning to ensure the entire surface is clean. DO NOT rub briskly on the roller as it will shred your screen wipe or cotton swab leaving debris in the scanner
  6. Gently wipe across the scanner glass to remove any particles stuck to the glass
  7. Place the ADF pad back into the scanner
  8. Close the cover when you are finished
  9. Turn the scanner back on

If you are still seeing black lines or streaks in your scanned image, there may be a corrupt driver calibration file. For instructions on ReInstalling Your Scanner Driver, choose your Operating System below:
