- You get an Error Code 1713 when attempting to uninstall or reinstall PaperPort.
Error Code 1713 occurs when the PaperPort uninstall is unable to locate items within the Windows registry. It is a known Nuance (formerlyScanSoft) issue, fixed in PaperPort 9 Service Pack 3 and in PaperPort 8 by using the "Live Update" feature. Click VIS1069 - Error Code 1713 PaperPort Error for instructions to correct this error.
- You need to uninstall your scanner.
Clean up your system of any installed scanner products and PaperPort software. This procedure is recommended by Technical Support when there are conflicts or corruptions resulting in errors.
For instructions on Performing a Quick Uninstall, choose your Operating System below:
- You see black lines or streaks down the scanned document or image.
There may be a corrupt calibration file or dirt, ink and debris obstructing the lens. Click VIS1021 - Scanned Images have Black Lines or Streaks for instructions.
- You are asked to unlock the scanner.
Many scanners have a shipping lock on the bottom rear of the unit. Unplug the power and toggle between the "Locked" and "Unlocked" position to ensure the mechanism is properly released.
Click VIS1094 - Error 10 Scanner Locked or Makes a Grinding Noise for troubleshooting instructions.
- You can't get the scanner to work.
The description "doesn't work" is very vague. Let me share with you the steps our Technical Support group follows when you call in to troubleshoot a USB scanner. There are six steps - please take the time to complete each step completely, as this process resolves the majority of installation problems. Start with VIS1051 - Step 1 Checking the Connections.
- Scans are red or have a pink tint.
Wait a minute or two from plugging in the unit to start a scan, to give the unit time to warm-up. The scanners are designed be plugged in and maintain a low-level of power. Essentially they remain on 'sleep' when not in use. Make sure you are using the power supply that shipped with the unit, and it's plugged directly into the wall, not a power strip or extension cord so the scanner has adequate power. If scans continue to appear with a red haze, the unit's color calibration file is probably corrupt, remove legacy files prior to reinstalling the driver. For instructions on Performing a Quick Uninstall, choose your Operating System below:
- You want to upgrade to PaperPort 10 or 11.
Before you upgrade to PaperPort 10 or 11, make sure that your scanner is working correctly with the PaperPort software on the cd that came with your scanner originally. Then upgrade to PaperPort 10 or 11. If you have any problems, please contact Nuance (formerly ScanSoft). PaperPort 10 and 11 support 32 bit or higher scanners
- You want to know how to scan a slide or negative.
Scanner models ending in 20 have a built-in transparency adapter to scan slides and negatives, including the 9120, 9220, 9320, 9420, and 9520. Slides and negative scanning generally requires a higher resolution and backlighting built into the scanner lid. Click VIS1153 - Scan Slides and Negatives using PhotoSuite III for more information.
- You want to scan to PDF.
PDF stands for Adobe® Portable Document Format. Adobe PDF is a universal file format that preserves all the fonts, formatting, graphics, and color of any source document, regardless of the application and platform used to create it. PDF creation is not dependent on the scanner, rather your software package. PaperPort 9 and higher includes the function to write to PDF, as does OneTouch 4.0. Click VIS1011 - Scan to PDF within PaperPort for information on creating PDFs with PaperPort 9 and later. For information on configuring OneTouch 4.0 to scan as PDF, click VIS1199 - Configuring OneTouch 4.0 Scan Buttons.asp.
Earlier versions of PaperPort require a PDF authoring tool or PDF printer such as Adobe Acrobat Writer or Acrobat Distiller. Using these applications is as easy as dragging the scanned image to the PDF link in PaperPort, or using the Export to PDF command from the File menu.
