You want to install your scanner on a computer running Windows Vista.
 
Solution:
 
Note: Before following these instructions, check to see if the installation CD that came with your scanner supports Vista. If the CD does support Vista, do not follow these instructions. Instead, use the CD and installation guide that came with your scanner.

Note: Not all scanners have a Vista driver available. To check if your scanner has a Vista driver, select a link below:

Installing the Scanner Driver

Step 1 - Check which version of Vista you have
  1. Right click on your 'Computer' icon and select 'Properties'
    • The computer icon may be on your Windows desktop or on the start menu
  2. In the properties window, look for 'System Type' to determine if you have 32-bit or 64-bit Vista


Step 2 - Download the latest Vista driver
  1. Use the links below to access your products driver download page:
    • Visioneer United States: Once on the support page, select your Product Family. Then select your scanner model and click on "Drivers and Manuals".
    • Visioneer Europe: Once on the support page, select your Product Family, then select your scanner model, then click on "Drivers and Manuals".
    • Xerox United States: Once on the support page select your scanner model.
    • Xerox Europe: Once on the support page, select your scanner product family then product.
  2. Use the links below to access your products driver download page:
    • Visioneer United States: Go to http://support.visioneer.com/, select your Product Family, then select "Drivers and Manuals".
    • Visioneer Europe: Go to http://support.visioneer.com/UK/, select your Product Family, then select your scanner model, then click on "Drivers and Manuals".
    • Xerox United States: Go to http://www.xeroxscanners.com/en/support/ and select your scanner model.
    • Xerox Europe: Go to http://www.xeroxscanners.com/en/uk/support/, select your scanner product family then product.
  3. Once on the download page, find the driver for your version of Vista (32-bit Vista or 64-bit Vista)
  4. Click on the driver then click 'Save'
    • Note: If the driver available is a beta driver, you will be shown a disclaimer. Read the disclaimer and, if you agree to the terms, click 'Accept' then 'Save'
  5. In the 'Save As' window, click 'Browse Folders'
    • Note: If there is no 'Browse Folders' button, move on to the next step



  6. Click on 'Desktop' then click 'Save'



  7. Once the download completes, click 'Close'
Step 3 - Install the driver
  1. Minimize or close any open windows so you can see your Windows desktop
  2. Double click on the driver file you downloaded
  3. If prompted with a security warning, click 'Run'
  4. Click 'Next'



  5. Click on 'I Agree' then click 'Next'



  6. Leave 'Full Install' selected and click 'Next'



  7. Select the image that looks the best on your screen then click 'Next'



  8. If prompted with a security message, click 'Allow'
  9. OneTouch will install; this may take several minutes depending on the speed of your system
  10. If prompted, connect your scanner and click 'OK'. Otherwise, connect your scanner at the 'Installation Complete' screen
    • Note: If installing a sheetfed scanner, you will be prompted to calibrate
  11. Click 'Close'



  12. OneTouch and the scanner driver are now installed
Installing PaperPort

Step 1 - Download PaperPort
  1. Click here to open the PaperPort upgrade page
  2. Type http://www.nuance.com/vista/paperport/upgrade/ into the address bar of your web brower and hit enter to open the PaperPort upgrade page
  3. Click the 'Upgrade Now' link for your scanner model
  4. Fill out the 'Download request form' and click 'Continue'
  5. You will be sent an email with instructions for downloading PaperPort
  6. Follow these instructions to download PaperPort to your Windows desktop
  7. Note: The PaperPort download is around 131 MB and may take a significant amount of time to download
  8. Once the file has finished downloading, move on to the next step
Step 2 - Extract files
  1. Minimize or close any open windows so you can see your Windows desktop
  2. Right click on the file Vsn_PP11_1STD.zip that you downloaded in step 1 and select 'Extract All...'
  3. In the 'Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders' window, make sure 'Show extracted files when complete' is checked and click 'Extract'
    • Note: The files may take several minutes to extract




Step 3 - Install PaperPort
  1. Once the files are done extracting, the folder should automatically open
    • If the folder does not open, find the Vsn_PP11_1STD folder and double click on it. Make sure you open the folder and not the zip file you downloaded.
  2. Double click on 'AUTORUN.exe'



  3. If prompted with a security warning, click 'Run' and 'Continue'
  4. Click 'Start Install'



  5. If prompted with a security warning, click 'Run'
  6. Click 'Next' in the InstallShield Wizard' screen



  7. Click 'I accept the terms in the license agreement' then click 'Next'



  8. Type in your User Name and Organization then click 'Next'



  9. Leave 'Complete' selected and click 'Next'



  10. If desired, select 'Create PaperPort Icon on the Desktop' then click 'Install'



  11. If you receive an error that files that need updated are in use, click VIS1405 - Some Files That Need To Be Updated Are Currently In Use
  12. If you receive an error that files that need updated are in use, search the knowledgebase for VIS1405 - Some Files That Need To Be Updated Are Currently In Use
  13. Click 'Finish'



  14. If prompted with a security warning, click 'Run'
  15. On the registration screen, click 'Remind me in 7 days' then click 'Next'



  16. PaperPort is now installed
