VIS1493 - Updating Your Scanner Driver

You want to update to the latest driver for your scanner.
 
Solution:
 
Step I - Download the latest driver

If you have not already done so, please download your scanner's driver using the steps below. Otherwise, please move down to step II.

  1. Download driver appropriate for your system and language from this page:
    http://www.xeroxscanners.com/en/us/products/DM632/drivers.asp
  2. If prompted to display the non-secure data, please click on "Yes".
  3. You will be requested to "Run", "Save" or "Cancel". Please click on the "SAVE" button.
  4. The "Save-As" window will now open. Click on the "Desktop" button then click on the "Save" button to save the driver file to your Windows Desktop. This way the file will be easily accessed later on.
Step II - Download Hidden Devices Plus to your Windows Desktop for easy access
  1. Click here to download Hidden Devices Plus.
  2. Click on the "Save" button when prompted.
  3. In the Save-As window click on the "Desktop" button.
  4. Click on the "Save" button.
  5. After you have finished downloading the utlity, print these directions and close all other open windows so you are looking at your Windows desktop.
  1. In the address bar for your web browser, type http://support.visioneer.com/utilities/hiddendevices+.exe and hit enter to download Hidden Devices Plus.
  2. Click on the "Save" button when prompted.
  3. In the Save-As window click on the "Desktop" button.
  4. Click on the "Save" button.
  5. After you have finished downloading the utlity, close all other open windows so you are looking at your Windows desktop.
Step III - Uninstall the current scanner driver

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel.
  2. Open "Add/Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features".
  3. If listed, remove the Scanner driver.
    1. Scroll down the list and click on your existing scanner driver; the driver name will appear as Xerox DocuMate 632 and OneTouch 4.0
    2. Click on the "Change" or "Remove" button
    3. Follow the uninstall wizard through an automatic full uninstall (removal).
  4. After uninstall is complete, unplug the scanner from the computer and turn off the scanner power.
  5. Close the Add/Remove Programs and the Control Panel.
Step IV - Run the utilities you downloaded in Step II

  1. Double-Click on "HiddenDevices+".
  2. The Windows Device Manager will open.
    • Click on the "View" menu then select "Show hidden devices".
  3. Click the "+" next to "Imaging Devices". This will show all Imaging Devices previously and currently connected to the computer.
  4. Right-click on the Visioneer or Xerox scanner name and left click on "Uninstall".
  5. If the scanner is listed more than one time, uninstall ALL occurrences of the scanner.
  6. IF you see "?Other Devices" in the device manager list, click on the "+" to view the list of Other Devices.
  7. Right click then left click on "Uninstall" for each occurrence of the scanner. The scanner may be listed as any of the following:
    • USB Scanner
    • USB Device
    • Unknown Device
    • 1200 DPI Scanner
    • (Your Scanner Model)
    • (any other scanners or cameras listed here that you no longer use)
  8. Click the "+" next to "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".
  9. Right-click every listing of "Unknown Device" and select uninstall.

Step V - Reinstall the software

  1. Disable any AntiVirus, AntiSpyware, Firewall, PopUp Blocker, Spam Blocker, or Weather Bug software program from running.
  2. If any of these applications are running, their icons will be in the Windows Notification area on the lower-right side of the computer next to the Windows System Clock.
  3. Right click on each of these icons and choose "Close", "Disable" or "Exit" depending on which option is available to you.
  4. Double-left-click on the driver executable file that you downloaded in Step 1.
  5. The installation wizard will launch.
  6. Follow the prompts through installing the scanner driver.
  7. STOP when you get to the "Finish / Connect the Scanner" screen.
  8. Plug the scanner into the computer and power to the wall then wait 30 seconds for the system to detect the scanner, then click on the "OK" button.
