Symptom:

You want to schedule an automatic OCR using Omnipage Pro 12 to create a searchable PDF file without degredation to your scanning speed.

Solution:

You can scan thousands of documents and then have the OCR recognition done later (like 2am when your system is not busy) and make it an SPDF (searchable PDF). There is a "Schedule OCR" option in OmniPage Pro. You would scan all of your documents for the day or the week and then have the recognition done later (you can schedule up to 8 days ahead). This will allow you to scan at your scanners optimal speed and will leave the extensive processing for later when no one is using the computer. You can even have the document be separated into multiple pages or combined into one.

To schedule an automatic OCR please follow the details below.
Tech Support Tip: DO NOT scan the documents as pdf. You can scan as jpeg, bitmap, or tiff and OmniPage will convert it to an spdf (searchable pdf). Omnipage can only create a pdf, it cannot import a pdf. The scheduled OCR will error out if you try to recognize a pdf file.
- Open Omnipage Pro 12
- Click the "Process" tab then "Schedule OCR"

- Click the "New" button to create a new scheduled OCR
- Choose "Image file on my computer"

- Browse to the folder where your scans are located
- Highlight all files you would like to OCR then choose "Next"
Note: You CANNOT import PDF files. They must be scanned as TIFF, BITMAP, or JPEG. A searchable PDF file will be created.
- Let OmniPage Pro decide (default option) then choose "Next"
- Make sure that "English" is chosen (default option) then choose "Next"
- Select the type of output file. If you would like to create a searchable pdf file, choose "PDF"
- Under "select the number of output files to create", select the option to best fit your needs. If you would like it to be one document, choose one file for all pages then choose "Next"
- Leave it on "true page" then choose "Next"
- Now select the date and time you would like the OCR to begin
- Your OCR is now scheduled to begin. You DO NOT need to keep this window, or the OmniPage Pro window open for it to begin
