| Symptom: |
| |
| You are getting "Scanner not found", "Unable to connect with scanner" or "Problem Communicating with the TWAIN Device" after installing the scanner driver and the PaperPort scanning software. |
| |
| Solution: |

This is the second in a series of 6 steps. Additional links to other troubleshooting steps are at the end of this article. You may wish to print these instructions for your reference.
Some of the "Scanner not found" errors occur due to Windows not properly loading the driver after attaching it to your computer. This step will also resolve the problem if the scanner was plugged in PRIOR to installing the software.
Open the System Properties for Windows:
Right-click on the "My Computer" icon then left-click on "Properties" from the dropdown menu (if you do not have "My Computer" on your Windows desktop then you will find it in your Windows "Start" menu).
Note: After performing the above, you will immediately see which Windows Operating System you have installed, please follow the steps below appropriate to the version you have installed. |

Technical Support Tip for USB Scanners
If you are in the Device Manager and you do not see either "Imaging Devices" or "?Other Devices", click on the "+" next to "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".
If you see specifically "USB Device" or "Unknown Device", unplug your scanner USB cable. If the "USB Device" or "Unknown Device" disappears from that list, then you know that device was your scanner.
Try a different USB port on your computer and try a different USB cable to see if it appears under "Imaging Devices" or "?Other Devices".
If it appears back as an "Unknown Device" or "USB Device" under Universal Serial Bus Controllers then it may be a hardware issue and you should contact Technical Support. |
