| Your scanner model is not listed in the "Scanner" drop-down list on the PaperPort scan pane. |

This is a system specific problem and may be caused by a variety of settings. Please try one or more of the following to see if it resolves this issue.
Verify Windows sees the scanner:
- Open the Windows Control Panel.
- Double-click on "Scanners and Cameras".
XP Users: If you do not see "Scanners and Cameras", open "Printers and Other Hardware" then "Scanners and Cameras" will be available to you.
Vista Users: If you do not see "Scanners and Cameras", open "Hardware and Sound" then "Scanners and Cameras" will be available to you.
- Verify that your scanner model is listed here.
- If your scanner is not in "Scanners and Cameras" follow the instructions in VIS1052 - Step 2 Redetect the Scanner in Windows which is the second step of our online 6-step troubleshooting guide.

If your scanner is listed in "Scanners and Cameras" and you have PaperPort 9.x or an earlier version:
You will need to run an initialization file provided by ScanSoft to reinitialize PaperPort to pick up the TWAIN source.
- Close PaperPort and ScanDirect if these programs are running.
- Open My Computer.
- Double-click on the C: drive; your local disk is usually stated as "Local Disk (C:)".
- Double-click on the "Program Files" folder.
Note: If you do not see any files in this directory, click on "Show Files" or "Show Contents" or whatever prompt Windows provides to allow you to do this.
- Double-click on the "ScanSoft" folder.
- Double-click on the "PaperPort" folder.
- Find the file "initwain" or "initwain.exe" and double-click on it.
- Adialog box will appear stating that PaperPort has been reinitialized for TWAIN access. Click on the "OK" button.
- Launch PaperPort.
- If you are usingPaperPort 8.0 or 9.0, click the "Scan" button and select your scanner from the "Scanner" drop-down menu.
If you are using PaperPort 6.x or 7.x, click on "File" than "Select Scanner" and select your scanner's TWAIN driver.
- You should now be able to scan using PaperPort.

If your scanner is listed in "Scanners and Cameras" and you have PaperPort 10.x or a later version of PaperPort:
- Open PaperPort.
- Click on the "Scan" button on the tool bar so that the scan pane is viewed on the left side of the screen.
- Click on the "Setup" button.
- This launches the Nuance PaperPort "Scanner Setup Wizard".
- Run through the Scanner Setup Wizard following the instructions on-screen to complete this process.
- After the Scanner Setup Wizard has been completed your scanner should now appear in the scanner list in the PaperPort scan pane.

Verify that you can scan using some other application:
You can scan from any application (ex: MS-Paint, PhotoShop, MS-Word, etc...) that allows you to connect to your scanner. This includes the other software we provide with the scanner (ex: ArcSoft PhotoImpressions, ArcSoft ScrapBook Suite, Quick Scan, etc...) If you are able to scan from other applications and this issue is unique to PaperPort please follow the instructions for performing a Quick Uninstall, in the link below, for your version of Windows. |
