Symptom:

You scanner is listed under "Other Devices" or has an "!" in the Windows Device Manager. When scanner drivers are not registered properly within the Device Manager, they may report a TWAIN error, the driver is "unable to connect" or the device is unable to scan from any application.

Solution:

Step 1 - Delete temorary files

If the temporary files are full, the driver may not install correctly.

Vista Users:
  1. Click Here and select "Run" to automatically run the disk cleanup utility.
XP and 2000 Users:
  1. Click Here and select "Run" to automatically run the disk cleanup utility.
Windows 98 and ME Users:
  1. Click on "start" then "Run" and type "Cleanmgr" then click "Ok".
  2. Review the files carefully. We suggest removing "Temporary Internet files" and the "Recycle Bin", making sure no other items are selected unless you understand what you are deleting.
  3. Click on "OK" to delete the files and "Yes" to the warning.
Step 2 - Update the driver
  1. Open the device manager:
    Vista Users:
    1. Right click on "Computer" and select "Propterties.
    2. Click on "Device Manager" on the left.
    XP and 2000 Users:
    1. Right mouse click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Properties".
    2. When the System Properties opens, click on the Hardware tab and click on the Device Manager Button.
    ME and 98 Users:
    1. Right mouse click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Properties".
    2. When the System Properties opens, click on the Device Manager tab.
  2. Locate the scanner in the list under Imaging Devices, Other Device, or Unknown Device.
  3. Refresh the association between the device and the driver.
Vista, XP and 2000 Users: Right click on the scanner and select "Uninstall".
ME and 98 Users: Click on the scanner to select it then click on the "Remove" button.
  4. Disconnect the USB and the Power cable from the back of the scanner. Restart the computer.
  5. When the computer restarts, reconnect the power and USB cable to the scanner.
Step 3 - Reinstall the driver

If the above information does not resolve the issue, you will need to reinstall your scanner driver. For instructions on ReInstalling Your Scanner Driver, choose your Operating System below:
