Symptom:
 
For Windows Vista, XP and 2000 Professional Users:
The scanner performs and functions normally under the Administrator profile but does not work properly under any other user profile. The user is unable to access certain parts of the software or driver and/or the software does not respond or work at all.
 
Cause:
 
This is because of the restrictive permissions inherited within the Windows Operating System and not an issue with the software that came with the scanner. The Administrator on the local machine does not have any restrictions and has full access to all files and folders on the local PC. User with more restrictive permissions (e.g. power users, users, guests) have less access to files and folders on the PC and may or may not have access to necessary files to operate the scanner and/or software.
 
Solution:
 
  1. Add the user to the "Local Administrators" group in the user accounts on the local PC.
    OR
  2. Give the user Full Control to the following folders and registry locations:
    • C:\Program Files\Kofax
    • C:\Program Files\Kofax Image Products
    • C:\Kofax
    • C:\Kofaxx1
    • C:\Windows\Twain_32\kofax
    • C:\Windows\PixTran
 
VRS uses several configuration files in the Windows (operating system) folder to which the user will need read and write access:
