the left mouse button and dragging them to a new location.

Prefix: Each string of characters you type is treated as a prefix.
So, if you search on "mark down", X1 will locate a result that contains "market
moved downward". But, if you are looking for an email from Fred and you just
type "red", you won't find him.
Negation: You can exclude files or email messages containing a particular
word by putting a minus sign at the beginning of a search string. So, not really
being fond of Fred, you can exclude him by typing "-Fred". Make sure that the
minus is either at the beginning of the field or is preceded by a blank space.
Example:
Sally -Fred
X1 locates files that do contain "Sally" and do not contain "Fred",
"Frederick", "Frederica", or anything else starting with "Fred".
Exact Word Match: If a punctuation symbol follows a word directly,
and is followed by a space, as in "mark$ " or "mark. " or "mark- ", then the
word is searched as an exact match. So "mark- down" will not match "market moved
downward" because "mark- " doesn't match "market". But it will match "mark went
downstairs".

What X1 Does
X1 locates email messages, attachments, Outlook contacts, and files on your hard
disk very quickly.
The X1 Screen
The left column is the List Pane, the right column the View Pane,
and the bar across the top the Control Bar. You can adjust the width of
the List and View panes by dragging the divider bar to the left or right. You
can move up, down, and between the List and View panes using the arrow and PgUp
and PgDn buttons. (If you don't see two columns in X1, you will when you do a
search.)
How to Find Email
1. Click on the Email tab on the Control Bar.
2. In the main search field type a word or phrase that appears in the email you
are looking for. You may also type a "relevant" entry in any of the column fields
in the List Pane. By "relevant," we mean string of characters that you believe
is contained in the column below the field.
3. If you don't see the email you want, you may wish to sort by column. To do
so, just click on whichever column header interests you. X1 will sort that column.
Clicking a second time will reverse the sort order. For example, if you know that
it was a large email, you might click on the Size column to bring the big files
to the top.
How to Find Attachments (Outlook* and Eudora)
1. Click on the Attachments tab on the Control Bar.
2. In the main search field type a word or phrase that appears in the file you

in the List Pane. By "relevant," we mean string of characters that you believe
is contained in the column below the field.
3. If you don't see the attachment you want, you may wish to sort by column. To
do so, just click on whichever column header interests you. X1 will sort that
column. Clicking a second time will reverse the sort order. For example, if you
know that it was a large attachment, you might click on the Size column to bring
the big attachments to the top.
How to Find Files
1. Click on the Files tab on the Control Bar.

column below the field.

so, just click on whichever column header interests you. X1 will sort that column.
Clicking a second time will reverse the sort order. For example, if you want to
see your contacts in alphabetical order, you might click on the Name column to
order the contacts alphabetically.
How Email and File Searching Works
Punctuation: For the most part, X1 treats all punctuation as spaces, so
"123-xyz(789)" is just "123 xyz 789". However, it does recognize punctuation in
some common uses, such as email addresses and dates.
Now That You've Found It
Okay, so you found what you want. Now what? Well, you can:
Docked and Windows Modes
You can configure X1 in one of three ways: Docked, Docked/Autohide, or normal
Windows mode.
Using Keyboard Shortcuts
X1's shortcut keys are a quick way to pop up X1 in Files or Email mode. For
shortcut keys to work, X1 needs to be running, but it may be hidden.
Options
The Options dialog box is where you configure X1. By clicking on the Options
